~ Ode To A Garden ~
Whistlin' Whittlin' Listenin'

I stood before St. Peter's gate
and heard the question that
would decide my fate
"Can you tell Me - in the life that's through
Did you try your best - in all that you'd do?"
**
Then he opened a book - and I saw my name,
but I had to hang my head in shame - as I thought
about all the years - of little lies and angry words
that brought forth tears, of all the things I'd failed
to say to brighten up someone's day, of all the times
when I was young, when I had failed to hold my tongue.
**
He closed his book - and turned away - and I was left
alone to pray.
I closed my eyes and begged,
"God, Please! Forgive my sins, I will appease!"
I stood in silence and nothing came, so I started
away toward those fiery flames.
**
Suddenly, I heard him answer on that day.
"Come in, My Child, You're Welcome To Stay!
We'll keep you here and see how you do.
It won't take long - maybe an eon or two.
You're not quite ready for Heaven's Full Pardon
But I will Let You Visit In My Heavenly Garden!"
