Mt Rushmore National Memorial

Please join with us as we make a quick trip to Mt Rushmore. This national memorial located near Rapid City, South Dakota is situated in the Black Hills region of that state. After your tour by way of 11 photographs, you can see a Live Cam depicting the current conditions at the Memorial.

Approaching from the south via US 385, you can visit an interesting geological site where they are uncovering the remains of giant mammoths. This site is in the town of Hot Springs.

Continuing north on US 385, you reach Wind Cave National Park and see the first of many bison in the region.

Arriving at the town of Custer, you can visit the enormous Custer State Park just on the outskirts and view very large herds of bison.

Oh no! This beast is chewing my wife's hand off.....Oops! Sorry...the burro is just eating pieces of apple she is feeding it.

After completing the visit to Custer State Park, you have several routes to take you to Mt Rushmore. One takes you through several narrow passes through the rocks like pictured above. This route is NOT recommended for motor homes. Hey fella, get your hand out of the way.

Another route from the south is on Alternate US 16, where you'll drive this unusual pigtail loop. You'll enjoy this route because of several tunnels through which the road travels and the exit of each "frame" Mt Rushmore off in the distance.

Here's our first view up close to the four presidents. Soon we'll be at the memorial.

You encounter many large masses of rock. You can barely see the climber on this rock cliff about half way up.

What? Yes, it's Washington's profile...his good side too!

Finally! We're here! What a majestic site and well worth the trip. Now visit the live cam below to see what the current conditions are at the memorial. I hope you enjoyed this little trip.
