The idea to start this band started in 1994. I was in 8th grade along with from Ryan, Dan, Matt, and Jeremy. At first I hooked up with Rob, Jeremy and Ryan. Jeremy had the drum set, Rob had the bass and Ryan had the guitar experience. Ryan soon was kicked out because of(get this) Jeremy's dad. Ryan stole a microphone from an elementary school open house and got caught. His dad found out and said Ryan could not hang out with Jeremy anymore. Pretty funny huh? So we decided we needed a singer. We asked Dan to do it. That lasted maybe 3 months before we noticed that he just couldn't hit the notes quite right. So we asked our friend Matt to do it. He was in the band for probably another six months before we convinced Jeremy's dad to let Ryan back in. So Ryan became just the singer. But Matt and Dan still hung around. In fact Matt is the one who designed the qualm logo. Dan convinced his mom to let him play drums, and soon started another band that changed names every month or so. Band names like Ewok Pinchers, Pervert, Smuckers and names to offensive that I won't even write. Matt sang for them. Eventually we started playing shows in Rob's basement together, and any-other place we could. We even performed at our middle school in front of the entire 8th grade. If you have the Mandalay Middle school yearbook video, then you can see it. But for our sake I hope you don't!! We later video taped one of our shows from Jeremy's basement and transferred the sound onto cassette to pass out to people. By this time we we're freshman in high school. We met a lot of people at school. One of them being Trevor from Pinhead Circus's girlfriend. He said he would hook us up with a show, but that took and good 6 or 8 months before he did. He felt bad and in return he gave us our first show on April 28th 1995 at the Raven in Denver with Schleprock, Pinhead Circus and Crestfallen. We were scared shitless. But we played and we sucked but we sure had fun and met a lot of people that night that we still associate with to this day. Jeremy's grades in school started to slip. Jeremy's parents didn't like that. Jeremy couldn't play or record anything with us. Unfortunately, Jeremy had to be let go. And it's kind of funny but Jeremy and Matt now live together. We replaced him with Dan. He learned all of our songs and played with us in 2 weeks. He was only in the band for two weeks when we recorded our first demo tape "Masturbation is Physically Harmful"!! So the line up was Ryan-Vocals, Justin-Guitar, Rob-Bass, and Dan-Drums. Eventually Ryan started playing more guitar and singing less. And I took over as singer, even though I never really wanted to be. So now the line up is Ryan-guitar/vocals, Justin-vocals/guitar and Rob and Dan the same. We are still playing locally and are still recording more and more things. Then we decided it was time to start touring. Our first tour was in Ryan's 86 Blazer and a u-haul trailer. We made it 3 hours south of Denver and broke down in Walsenburg, Colorado. What a nightmare. Since then we've been on three successful tours and played with many great bands. Such as Bad Religion, Unwritten Law, Strung Out, Jughead's Revenge, Swingin Utters, and several more. To this day we decided we will never replace a member because it just wouldn't be the same. We were friends before we started this band, and we're going to stay that way. Thanks for reading this far.
