++++Tyranid Spires++++

For the record this is my first review, and Sabol Donated 3 spires and thus this will be a 3 month review. This month will feature the spires all on their own.
Brief: To start off I would like to say these are TRUE innovation and I commend Sabol Designs for getting out there and making spires almost immediately after the new Tyranid release. The Spires are a good 8-10 inches tall and only cost $10 american which is in itself a good deal!

Unpainted: I have not seen a spire unpainted yet, when I recieved mine primed(to speed up the process of my painting them) but when you guys get em they are going to be bare resin, so wear a mask if sanding, and clean it before priming. Considering the priming job I will have to assume they spray prime well. I do not suggest using them unpainted though, in the least they must be inked for detail or its a waste of some beautiful stuff.

Assembly: It took a while to glue due to the type of resin. I'd say about 25 seconds. But once glued they remain VERY stable and cannot be pryed appart(without excessive force of coarse). I suggest Industrial Superglue for this operation.

Painting: They paint up nicely and this pic does them no justice. DO NOT paint them with skin tones though, they will look awful. Use natural colours for optimum effect, I used green and brown in many shades. I origionally painted them in a red undercoat with a light orange flesh drybrush and lets just say I was SURE that it would be a terrible paint scheme. But they pass the repaint test as the detail is deep enough to stand a good spray priming and 2 paint jobs!

Playability: Here it is, the catagory of catagories, do they look good on the table? Well of coarse! But they don't provide much cover on their own. On the other hand these are a Nid player MUST. The look alone gives the whole field a taken over look, spill some glue on some cardboard and paint it like a spawning pool, throw a couple of these on the board and you have QUITE the set-up.

Problems: My main problem with these is superficial and disappears after painting. The sinew sections between the chitons are stars. It just bugged me, but check the pics, its hardly noticable. Also, paint the spire and base seperately, they can not be paited put together because of the bases shape wrapping around the spire a bit. This is remedied by painting them seperately though so no prob.

Good Features: Its ALIEN FLORA, or Fauna for that matter. Theres not a huge selection of it out there and this stuff looks good. On the field with troops avoiding them, and off the field sprucing up the shelf with your 'Nid or any other alien army (koralons! and maybe Kroot?). Also the price is a Fantastic feature. I suggest picking one up if you own or play against any alien armies as there is FINALLY some good terrain for them!
