1748 " History of Shannondoah Valley" by John Wayland, page 538, a story on three Harman brothers being among the first settlers at Drapers Meadow (Blackstone) form this place the Harmans and his associates, Michael Stoner, Casper Mansker, Henry Skaggs, James Skaggs and others operated into Kentucky and Tennessee, especially Kentucky and Harman's station on the Louisa River was established
1761 "History of Pittsyvania County" page 89, As soon as the state of affairs with the Cherokees and Catawbas would admit hunting in the wilderness, Elisha Walden and a party of 18 men, made up of freinds and neibors formed themselves into a company for the purpose of Taking a long hunt. Henry Scaggs was listed as being in this group

1770/1790 by John Redd: Henry Skaggs being some 50 years of age (1726), slightly grey, slender frame, dark skin and some three inches taller than Pitman (who was 6 feet tall) I know not where he and Pitman came from originally but both lived on New River and they remained there until their deaths, both had families.

John A. Skaggs and wife Mary born: Dec 22, 1853. D. Skaggs grandfather, John A. Skaggs is shown as divorced, he married 2nd in Greenbrier County, Va. to a Dyse J. Ayres Mar 16, 1858. John A. Skaggs is older brother of Mary Martha Skaggs/Lemons who moved to Arrowsmith,Ill. McClean Co. along with others of David J. Skaggs family.
John Skaggs was a private in Edmmonson company at the Battle of Kings Mountain, he was wounded in this battle
In the Skaggs clan of Southwest Virginia it's writen, "Ordered that John Skaggs who received wounds at Kings Mountain ought to be on the list of Pensioners; ( he was actually in the Virginia contingent of Colonial troops) and in Bowen's company, and his is the last name of those severaly wounded listed on a monument at Bristol, Virginia.
At a Confederate reunion ralley, circut court judge C. C. Burns, in referring to the same incident said " In our bckwoods history John Skaggs according to the old groundhog covered book in the clercks office, was so severly wounded at King's Mountain, that he was not only releived by the first court from paying taxes on his Tithables, but he was recommended to the govenor as a suitable party to be allowed a certain number of shillings for his heroism and valor, displayed at King's Mountian.
John Skaggs one of the oldest residents of Monroe County Virginia having been born around Wolf Creek district 1795, his father was also John Skaggs and mother was Cathrine Hicks. John Skaggs was a grandson of Thomas Skaggs, John Skaggs married Wolf Creek Nov 14, 1817 a Sally Campbell the dautgher of Robert and Lydia (Jefferies) Campbell. John Skaggs and Sarah had the following children, Andrew A. Skaggs born Oct. 2, 1818, Robert C. Skaggs born July 3, 1820, James A. Skaggs born Sept, 16, 1823,B John M. Skaggs born Jan. 29, 1826,B Eliza J. Skaggs born Apr 4, 1828, Mary C. Skaggs born Feb. 5, 1830, Lydia M. Skaggs born Apr. 4, 1833, Louisa E. Skaggs born Oct. 21, 1838, died Apr. 9, 1883, Emeline Skaggs born Sept. 23, 1841 died Aug 14, 1852. After the death of Sally Campbell Skaggs John Skaggs married a second time Annie M. Allen.
