Baby Benjamin

of Bolivian Mateo and Argentine Belen

Written by Joy (German)

I only knew him for two months as we were passing through the city where his parents lived. My oldest daughter (who was 8 at the time) helped to take care of him and was absolutely in love with him.

He had been having heart troubles ever since birth and had delicate health in general. What stuck out to me the most was the peaceful, angelic look on his face. He was always smiling, even the times when he was sick. I could never pass by him, no matter how busy I was, without stopping for a few minutes and gazing into his eyes. Afterwards, I would usually walk away with a smile on my face too, his sweet spirit would stir up all the tenderness within me.

When he was about 7 months old, he contracted the measles. This was too much for his poor, little heart and the Lord, in His mercy, called him Home. This was around the beginning of 1994.

We didn't know much about receiving prophecies in those days, but while we were praying, for comfort for his parents, somebody saw a vision of little Benji happily playing hide-and-seek with other little kids behind some puffy clouds.

Oh, baby mine, you're sleeping now, but I'm not far away,

I hear your gentle sighing as you slip from night to day

I can no longer see you, but I'll hold you once again,

Your closer than my heart-beat, little baby Benjamin.

Your tiny life was oh, so short, but forget, I never can,

Your cute laugh and your sweet sweet smile, my little baby man.

You made me laugh, you made me cry, and now I smile again

You're laughing up in Heaven now, sweet baby Benjamin.

And when my tears are wiped away, I'll hold you in my arms

And feel again my Benjamin and know you're safe from harm.

No more sorrow, no more pain, just love and eternal joy.

And I'll be so glad to hold again my little baby boy.
