Shuly went to be with the Lord about 16 yrs. ago! She was about 18 at the time ( My memory fails me abit), and she was from South America. Costa Rica, I think.

Shuly had written an ad looking for a penpal & at that time I had a son her age (16) so I encouraged him to write to her. She responded so beautifully, lifting up the Lord & the Family. Even though her life was full of big tests, she was encouraging my son in his walk with the Lord. She was an absolute positive influence, giving my son the push he needed to go forward.I'd like to thank her for that in this little remembrance.

She had an affliction (Lupus) that caused her much pain, yet she set her heart apart from that & remained encouraging, sweet & uplifting.

Shuly, you were sweet & giving, you helped to make my son's life worth living, you became for him what he needed, a friend to fill in for Jesus.

You know that when Jesus took you Home we felt a loved one leave us and though we grieved, we knew that you were happier still and we could only thank the Lord for the time that we knew you.

Lots of love, can't wait till we see you in Heaven, Gloria

I met Shuly when she and her family came through Ohio on their way to South America. Shuly was only 8 years old, but her spunk, intelligence and fire amazed me. To see this little bouncy girl, not at all shy telling me one testimony after the other. I was astounded. While her parents were counselling with the shepherd's Shuly played me a song on her little guitar. It was so good that I asked her to teach it to me which she promptly did, showing me the chords and helping me to memorize the words. She was 8, I was 22. A little dynamo filled to the brim with love and the Lord's inspiration. A most unusual child and an unforgettable teenager.

She used to write questions to Dad and give her opinion on some pretty hot topics. They would publish them in the Family magazine and that was the first thing I'd look for whenever a mailing came: "What's Shuly gonna say this time?" Ha!

She was like a breath of fresh air. She asked questions about things that I had wanted to know, but didn't have the guts to ask. Dad's sweet replies and patience and fatherly counsel were a wonderful sample to us all of the Lord's love for this up-coming firey generation.

Thanks, Shuly. I look forward to learning some more songs from you in Heaven.
