I first met Tim in early 1979. He had gotten saved on the street with a local Home; but besides being an ‘intellectual’, he was trapped in several strong vices. He was living with an ex-member, who was involved in the same problems; whose occasional witness would, of course, fall on deaf ears as his sample was so bad. [This brother is now a faithful FM’er.]
We lived in nearby city for 3 years, & would visit them regularly. He slowly changed from sneering at the Bible to reading a modern version to studying the KJV. As he took in more Word, his life began changing – for example, he renounced his homosexuality & smoking & drunkenness.
Many brethren were the recipients of his warm-hearted hospitality, as he opened his house to any & all & at times there were even whole Homes based in his apartment.
He was always a big help & reliable blessing to The Family, even though he didn’t have much income. All esteemed his generous companionship. I kept in touch with him over the years as we moved from country to country and he continued to slowly progress & grow spiritually.
When we started our transcontinental CTP project to Bosnia in 1995, I "drafted" Tim as a driver (at the time I didn't have a license). It was a life-changing experience for him including seeing Dad on video while there. These were the keys to his deciding to serve the Lord.
It happened that we ended up in his adopted town again in 1996. This time he was ripe & ready at age 52 (one of those cautious Tauruses)! He forsook all, moved in with us & quickly became an essential part of our Home & ministries.
One of Tim's most outstanding characteristics was his patience & understanding. He was always a peacemaker. He was constantly cheerful & full of faith & praises to his Saviour. His favourite verse was: “Joy cometh in the morning!”(Ps.30:5) He became, as-it-were, “more than a Brother”...he was my best friend.
In spite of some serious health problems (like glaucoma, hypertension, overweight, & extreme myopia), he felt called to go to the mission field & made his preparations for India. While visiting his parents one last time in the U.K, he passed away peacefully in his sleep. I can’t wait to see him again!
