  STEAM LOCOMOTIVES

There is a moderate number of steam locomotives at different railroads in Yugoslavia. Some of them are still in service, while other just resting as technical heritage. The first part of this page is dedicated to locomotives used by Yugoslavian railroads. The second part contain photograph of still active steam locomotives, used in industrial complex only.

Some of the photographs originate from the book prepared by Tadej Brate "Die Dampflokomotiven Jugoslaviens", which is out of print for the long period. We must express our thankfulness to the author, as well as hope that second edition will be issued as soon as possible.

One of them 01-101 was supplied with aerodynamic shield, named "Flying Belgrade-man". In 1937 this engine without rolling stocks, reach speed of 146 km/h, respectable for that time. In March 31st 1973, 01-007 departs from Belgrade main station as last steam engine ever drive in Belgrade. There are 8 engines of this class still preserved in more or less satisfactory condition, and last of them 01-088 was 1996 prepared in "Šinvoz" factory. Now it is in excellent condition, and is used for old-timer "Romantika" train.

Technical data: Wheel arrangement 1-C-1, length 20,57 m., speed 90 km/h, 20.0 t of water, 8.0 t of coal.

62-377

62-class engine originate from 0-C-0, specially designed for the United States Army Transportation Corps (USATC). Based on it 90 engines of this type were built by Đuro Đaković works in Slavonski Brod. Some of them is still operational, e.g. 62-377 now operate in FKS Jagodina Industrial complex.

Fireless locomotive
UNNRA-8053

Some of the narrow gauge locomotives are still in service in mines or industry. After the W.W.II numerous locomotives were received from United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, as support for reconstitute program. They are known as U.N.R.R.A. engines. Majority of them was built by "Porter" company in 1945 and 1946. On the photograph is UNNRA 900 mm gauge engine, in Kostolac open pit coal mine.
