The Medicine Wheel has 36 stones, each of which has a specific function. The East is where you find the truth of life and free yourself from what holds you back. The South is where you go for a healing of the heart. The West is where you can learn the balance of looking within and without. The North is the place of physical healing. In the Center, the Creator is surrounded by seven stones. It is from this small circle that the energy radiates. The four directions ( the Keeper Stones) have twelve Pathway Stones, three for each direction. Each direction also has three stones representing a totem animal. The Spirit Keeper Stone of the North is represented by Earth. It is the time of quiet, of power, of forgiveness and compassion. This is the direction of completion and fulfillment. The three Spirit pathways are: Cleansing where you may clear old ideas that no longer benefit you; Renewal which gives new perspectives and Purity where you may renew your sense of integrity. The three totem animals are Cougar who teaches courage, flexibility and stamina; Snow Goose who teaches creative mystery, perfection and evolution. Otter teaches playfulness, curiosity and originality. The Spirit Keeper Stone of the East is represented by air. It is the place of new beginnings. It is the time of great awakening. Here you find courage, illumination and the Truth of life. The three Spirit Pathways are Clarity where you may become an efficient receiver of universal energy; Wisdom where you may learn to discern and Illumination where you may deepen your connection with the universe. The three totem animals are Red Hawk who teaches optimism, survival and adaptability; Beaver who teaches tenacity, balance and stability; Deer who teaches grace, beauty and alertness. The Spirit Keeper Stone of the South is represented by water. It is the place of the Heart, the emotions. It is here you come to heal the heart of fear, hate, envy , jealousy or anger. The power of the South is Growth. The three Spirit Pathways are Growth where you may experience broader range of feelings and connect with those feelings; Trust where you may give and receive love more fully and become more vulnerable. Love where you may learn about honesty and honor. The three totem animals are Flicker who teaches communication, joy and nurturing; Sturgeon who teaches determination, generosity and strength. Brown Bear who teaches observation, courage and pleasure. The Spirit Keeper Stone of the West is represented by fire. It is the place of strength, leadership and power. It teaches responsibility for Self and for the Earth. Here you can learn to balance between looking within and acting without. The three Spirit Pathways are Experience which is learning through doing; Introspection where you may integrate your emotions; Strength where you may learn to be more decisive and improve your concentration. The three totem animals are Raven who may be a good omen or a bad omen; Snake who teaches about transformation, mystery and communication and Elk who teaches strength, beauty and speed. Visualize the Circle with the Four Directions and choose the Stone where you wish to go: The Spirit Keeper, the Spirit Pathway, the Totem animal or the Creator Stone. Focus your thoughts on what you wish to bring about in your life. Call upon the energy that is held in each Stone and allow yourself to accept the gift that you request. |
