Lizzy awoke the next morning alone. She sat up startled. It wasn’t a dream was it? As she scanned the room she realized she wasn’t in her apartment, she smelled pancakes, and she wasn’t wearing any clothes. She spotted the shirt she had worn the night before next to the bed. She pulled herself out of bed and put on the shirt.
She found Johnny in the kitchen standing over the stove. Lizzy walked up behind him and put her arms around his waist. She kissed the back of his neck.
“Morning, honey.”
“Good morning,” he said as he turned around to kiss her.
“Mmm, very good,” she smiled.
They sat down at the table for breakfast. Over the next week when she wasn’t working she was with him.
Oz, Devon, and Lizzy decided to keep their jobs as long as they could. There were no guarantees here and they weren’t taking any chances that weren’t necessary. The meeting went well and they got the contract to take to their lawyer. If everything went the way it was supposed to in two weeks they would be in LA recording thirteen of Lizzy’s songs. They dropped the contract off at the lawyer’s office and decided to celebrate. Devon’s idea of a celebration was a drink and a girl, good thing he worked at a club because he could never pass for twenty-one. Oz and Lizzy wanted to go out to dinner though. Devon consented deciding to party after.
They decided to change, pick up dates and meet at their favorite restaurant. Devon grabbed some random girl who he had met a few days earlier. Oz called his long time girlfriend, Silvia. Lizzy called Johnny and asked him to come celebrate with them.
“I’d love to, but celebrate what?”
“Well, it looks like we may have ourselves a record contract.”
“Oh, Lizzy, that’s great.”
“I’ll there in fifteen minutes. Okay?”
“All right. See you then.”
They drank champagne, ate dinner, laughed, and had fun. Lizzy’s real celebration came later that night back at Johnny’s apartment. She was on cloud nine when she woke up the next morning. She had to go back to her apartment and get ready for work. She got dressed quietly and kissed Johnny on the forehead. She left him a note in the kitchen.
Johnny,
I had to go to work. I get off at 10 p.m.. Call me. I want to see you soon.
Back at the apartment she ran into her roommate, who she hadn’t seen in days. Suzie came rushing out of the kitchen when she heard the door.
“Well, well, well. Howdy stranger.” Suzie giggled as she said this.
“Oh, I’ve missed you,” Lizzy said as she hugged Suzie.
“Where have you been for the past week, huh?” Suzie said as she hugged Lizzy back.
“Oh, you are not going to believe this,” Lizzy said as she went to her room. As she changed for work she related the events of the last week to her best friend.
“Oh my god! Oh my god!” Suzie screamed. “A record contract and Johnny Rzeznik! Oh my god!”
“Hey, calm down. We haven’t signed the contract yet and I’ve only known Johnny for a week. Oh, but you are right. Oh my god!” Lizzy and Suzie screamed as they held hands and jumped up and down on the bed.
Lizzy wanted to stay and talk to Suzie but she had to go to work. She promised lunch the next day as she rushed out the door.
Lizzy loved her job. All the other bartenders complained about being hit on and dealing with drunks, but she loved it. She was studying poetry at school but if it weren’t for the music she’d probably stay a bartender. Sure it didn’t make a ton of money but this was her kind of job. She would miss it but a musician was just as good, no better. She could still play in bars and go to them. Unexpected twists in life are good.
Oz, on the other hand, was anxious to stop working at bars and clubs. All he wanted to do, all he had ever wanted to do, was play drums. This was his big chance, so why didn’t Silvia understand this? They had fought last night after dinner. Silvia said that she was tired of taking the back seat to his music. He just wanted to get his career under way then she would no longer feel neglected. It didn’t matter. If he signed the contract she would break up with him, that was the ultimatum she had given him. So much for love.
Devon, what the fuck does Devon care? Lizzy was happy, he cared about that, he cared about her. This would be a paying job. Money meant he could party. A rock star got groupies, groupies meant a distraction to take his mind off Lizzy. Especially now, Lizzy had met the man of her dreams. What chance did he have with Lizzy now? The girls didn’t take her place but they did distract him for a little while. Devon, what the fuck did Devon care?
The contract came back from the lawyer two days later. It was a great contract and they should sign now. They weren’t going to find better. Of course they signed, as fast as they could find a pen.

That was that, their fate was signed for good or for bad.
In four days they would be in LA starting on their first album. Then they were to film the video that would introduce them to the MTV world. After that they were supposed to tour. Johnny asked Lizzy if they wanted to go on the next Goo Goo Dolls’ tour. Their music would attract the same type of audience, so this would work well. The tour didn’t start until September. This was fine with the members of Korn because that would leave them room for the Family Values Tour from May to the end of August.
“Family Values Tour?” Oh no, this scared Lizzy.
“Yes, we want you to go on the Family Values Tour with Limp Bizkit.” Jonathan Davis was still acting as the spokesperson.
Lizzy said what Oz was thinking, “Don’t you think the audience will be completely different? You know, like wrong for us.”
“It might but Ozzy got a girl band last year and now we are getting requests for one.”
It was obvious to the now officially dubbed Love Dolls that they would always be a girl band to their label. An asset only because they were fronted by a chick, but they agreed. Who knew, maybe it would turn out to be a good experience. It would definitely be strange, but what about them so far wasn’t strange.
