Recently, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that they are cutting their PS2 shipment forecasts for the remaining financial year which ends March 31, 2001. Sony claims that they will ship 9 million PS2 units contradicting the previously stated 10 million units. Sony spokespersons claim that the cause of the unit reduction is due to the shortage of PS2 hardware chips and the delay of killer app titles such as Gran Turismo 3 and Final Fantasy X.
Sony spokespersons also added that the production cut will not affect North America. In addition, the company took hits in the revenue department for the fiscal year. This recent year, Sony's fiscal department ran from 10 billion yen ($85,500,000) to 5 billion yen ($42,500,000), mainly due to its lack in revenue from the company's computer entertainment division. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Sony and hope that they will get their act together soon, very soon. We will bring you more on this issue as more information is unveiled.
