Ahhhh, Tokyo Xtreme Racer. For the deadicated import racer, there's nothing finer for taking your favorite rocket around Toyoko, challenging opponents to duels wherever you go. Alas, foreign gearheads were limited to the Dreamcast if they wanted to experience Tokyo's highways and byways in the dead of night -- until now. Crave Entertainment (yes, the same Crave that published the Dreamcast versions of TXR 1 and 2) announced today that Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Zero will hit the PS2 this March.
Developed by Genki, the same team behind the previous TXR games, Zero will offer more than 125 different cars that can be upgraded with 200+ various parts and over 400 opponents to test the performance of that latest muffler upgrade. For those that haven't had a chance to pick up one of the TXR games, the premise is simple: you have the 100+ miles of Tokyo's biggest highways, and you're out looking for anything that will race you. See an opponent from a rival gang, pull up and flash your high-beams, and you're off, simple as that.
While Zero will generally follow its Dreamcast bretheren in design and execution, there will me more traffic on the freeways to dodge as you race your opponent (something critics lightly tagged as a problem with the Dreamcast versions -- after all, it IS Tokyo). While Sony's rumored "relaunch" in March may be falling apart with numerous delays in some of the big name titles, a thickening of the library with a quality title like TXR: Zero is sure to help tide people over well until the big releases hit later this year.
