According to recent gaming news reports, Sony has possible plans to lower the price of the PS2 by a whopping 10,000 Yen ($86) in Japan, due to friction from competitors such as Nintendo and Microsoft. If the price cut ever occurs over in the far East, you bet it will trail closely behind in North America and Europe.
When the press questioned SCEI on the price cut strategy, SCEI director Kenichi Fukunaga said: "Certainly we plan to oppose the Xbox, but we're not targeting any other platforms. Beneath the surface, a war of words has already begun (Between Sony and Microsoft). Some people believe the Xbox is more powerful, but we're not using computer-based components. I'm confident they won't be able to match the level of expression of our exclusive semiconductors"
Well, that's all what the main man had to say. The quote was said so beautifully that I think it brought a tear to my eye. Anyway, we will bring you more on the PS2 price issue as more information is unraveled.
