Window Shopping

Try me on
take me home
the tags are on
it's still a loan
Warranty is in the sack
you can always take me back
and go

window shopping
window shopping again

Scan the shelves for something red
it's different
it's brighter than the ones you had to have
they didn't last
they just fade
and you go

window shopping again
window shopping again
there's no stopping your window shopping
window shopping again

There's miles and miles
of strip mall smiles
waiting to take you home
and all the conversations
not so subtle invitations
but isn't that what this is all about?

Oops, there's a hole in the shrink wrap
you didn't notice that
lucky you, they'll take it back
the warranty is in the sack
besides, there's always something more
something better
a bigger store
to go

window shopping again
window shopping again
there's no stopping your window shopping
window shopping again

Try me on
take me home
the tags are on
it's still a loan
warranty is in the sack
you can always take me back

here, in lisa's own words is an explanation of the song:

"This song was inspired by a script for a movie. I don't remember which movie, but it had something to do with a guy who wouldn't commit and was always looking for the next gal. Dave Bassett and I thought a good metaphor for that kind of behavior was "window shopping." I always love writing and recording with Dave, because, unlike some professional songwriters, he writes as if he's in the band with you. The songwriting inspired the production style. With the strange-sounding chords and spoken lyric in the verses, the recording has a very clunky feel as if things are fall out of a closet. In the more melodic chorus and bridge sections, the song is more rock-ish. I think we were inspired by everyone from Tom Waits to the Cars on this production."
