Getting Over
Welcome to the 4th edition of
Getting Over written for Wrestling Envy by Lewis316.
Column #4
Since my last column 2 weeks ago
there hasn't been a great deal of news or
happenings in the wrestling world - due to one
main reason. That is the lack of rivalry between
the World Wrestling Federation and World
Championship Wrestling - because of the WWF's
purchase of WCW it leaves me, as webmaster of
Wrestling Envy, a tough job at coming up with a
top story for the main page every day. As you may
have noticed, I have had to revert to having
Lycos' Top 10 Search items or WWF ShopZone's Top
10 selling items as the top story - hardly big
news is it? I don't like it.
The Demise of the Wrestling World
I may have to admit first off,
that I wasn't a big fan of WCW - and had never
really planned to be. But it's like anything you
get used to, even if you're not fond of it, you
miss it like hell when it's gone. "But it's
not gone.." - I hear you say - "..the
WWF owns it.." - well if you say that you
must soon realise that the old, all conquering
WCW of the mid-nineties is never going to return.
I can see it now, the WWF has too much power over
the whole situation.
The way I look at it as if you're
playing a game by the rules - and you're enjoying
it and having fun. But now, you play with no
rules. The one player has the big advantage - he
can do whatever he likes - when he pleases.
There's no fun in playing that game, is there?
What about ECW. What a sad story
that is. For the odd times I'd switched over to
Bravo (I live in the UK) to watch it I can't say
that I didn't enjoy it. I think that everyone
would watch it happily. It's a thrill to watch
small, unknowns (to me anyway) giving their all
in every match on the card - with absolute great
ovation from the hundred or so packed in the
small venue. It's not glamorous - and doesn't
need to be. It's raw talent from the toughest and
hardest workers in the wrestling business.
The aerial ability of all the
wrestlers is astounding. Even most of the big
guys I've watched have the high-flying ability of
Jeff Hardy (probably not quite, but you get the
idea). Now what? ECW is dead and buried. With
their recent filing for bankrupcy evidence of
this. I don't like this either. It's gone from
the big 2 - to the big 3 - to the big 1. Vince
McMahon has won the game. But I'm sorry to say
this Vince; This wasn't a game that you were
meant to win.
That's it..
This has been the shortest column
I've ever done, but I feel sickened after what
I've written about. The way the wrestling world
has sunk to this level, it makes me wonder why I
even write about it any more. The next column
will be longer, and hopefully written on a high
note :) Until next time, this has been Lewis316..
