Welcome to the 1st edition of

Austin vs.
The Rock - More than just a wrestling match?
The
Astrodome Houston, Texas 1990. Wrestlemania VI
set the stage for what would be at that time the
most anticipated match in wrestling history. The
match was unique in a few ways. For one, one
competitor was the WWF champion whilst the other
was the Intercontinental champion. For another,
both competitors were deemed undefeatable. But
what made this match more unique than any other
was the fact that both wrestlers were faces. Of
course, I am talking about Hulk Hogan V The
Ultimate Warrior. Both wrestlers came to the ring
to a huge aulvation and it was impossible to tell
who was the most popular of the two. All of the
fans who watched the match knew that they were
going to see a clean match with no cheating and
no outside interference. And whilst this made for
an exciting match it seemed to be lacking
something. And that something was controversy.
Eleven
years later the WWF are going to try the same
thing again. Stone Cold Steve Austin V The Rock
is possibly going to be the most anticipated
match in WWF history. The two most popular
superstars in the WWF are going to collide in a
singles match that as I write this has no special
stipulations. The only thing out of the ordinary
is that Steve Austins wife Debra has been
forced by Vince McMahon to be in The Rocks
corner. But can you actually see Debra changing
the course of this match. Her presence at ring
side may cause a distraction for both men but I
would be very surprised to see her get physically
involved. So if there is going to be any outside
interference it would come from one of the other
WWF superstars. But who? There are plenty of
people who have a real interest in the match but
who do these people want to win. Triple H, The
Undertaker, Kane, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle are
only a few people who will want a shot at the
winner but do any of them really care who the
winner is?
So can we
expect a repeat of Wrestlemania VI and prepare
for a nice clean fight. Certainly not. Wrestling
nowadays has changed so much that chair shots and
putting people through tables are the norm and
can you really see the main event at Wrestlemania
end with a D.Q? I certainly cant. So expect
Austin and The Rock to use every trick in the
book in order to gain a victory. Why? Because not
only is this going to be one of the most
important matches in their careers and not only
is it going to be for the WWF championship but,
in The Rocks words, it will prove without a
shadow of a doubt who the greatest superstar in
the WWF really is.
