Emily Dickinson was born December 10, 1830 to her parents, Edward Dickinson and his wife Emily in Massachusetts. Emily lived with her parents and her sister for the rest of her life! She attended Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. After 1855 she became more reclusive, leaving her home only twice to visit Boston. She hardly saw anyone at her home and when she died in 1886, her sister found her poems! Her sister and her friends began to edit and publish her poems. In 1955 Harvard University published a complete edition of her poems. Although only seven of her poems were published, anonymously, in her lifetime, Dickinson's work is now widely known and appreciated.
