Kodiak Photographs
|
I came to visit my sister here in Kodiak at the end of September 2001. I was very surprised as the jet neared the runway and Kodiak first came into view, it was much bigger than I expected. There is even a Wal-Mart here! Kodiak is a beautiful island, known as the Emerald Isle, accessible by jet or ferry. It is home of Alaska's largest fishing fleet. The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge covers two-thirds of the island, home of the famous Kodiak brown bears. These bears are the world's largest carnivorous land mammal. During my stay in Kodiak my sister took me to Pasagshak, about an hours drive from the town of Kodiak. We were on the watch out for the bear, both of us very frightened of running into one! Pagagshak is a beautiful beach area, with a big sandy beach, looking west you can see no land.
