Colorado Scenery - Rocky Mountain National Park
We took Trail Ridge Road from Estes Park, it was an awesome experience! Trail Ridge Road winds along the ridge which formed a crossing for the Ute people. The road is open from Memorial day through October as weather permits. It is the highest continuous paved highway in the country, climbing to an elevation of 12,183 feet above sea level. Entry to the park is 10.00 per car, it enables you to visit for up to ten days. Near the top of the road is the Alpine Visitor center, there is a gift shop and a restaurant, inside the Visitor's Center you can view the mountains. You should allow 4-6 hours for the 34 mile trip to the Visitor Center, more if you're going on to Grand Lake. Rocky Mountain National Park was established in 1915. One third of the park is above tree line, this trip takes you through life zones which are equivalent to a round trip to the Arctic Circle. To get there take U.S. 34, U.S. 36 and Colorado 7 to reach the east side of the park (Estes Park). From U.S. 40 take U.S. 34 to the west side. (Grand Lake)
