Colorado Scenery - Slate Road near Crested Butte

This trail is located north of Crested Butte, Colorado. To get there you take Route 135 north of Crested Butte and turn left onto Slate Road 734. Our book says this is an easy road to negotiate, but we feel otherwise from our limited experience and what we heard along the way.

We had planned on taking the Slate Road/Gothic Road loop, but unfortunately we got a flat on the way up. The people who helped us out were coming down the steep incline we were going up and they said the road gets narrower and rougher the higher you go. We decided it would be best to turn around and go home as we didn't have another spare and didn't want to risk another flat.

Near the beginning of the road, we were anticipating the beautiful scenery.

Here's Larry checking out the bridge that heads towards Gunsight Pass. They recommend you don't use this bridge for obvious reasons, it is recommended you cross the stream on the left side of the bridge if you wish to continue up Gunsight Road.

Here is our flat tire...pretty sad, huh? Notice the hole at the top of the tire, one of the rocks you see here did that.

Slate Road heading up into the high country, oh how we wish we could have gone on exploring.
