One of our more unusual tripsOne Harley, one Toyota and two kidsMoab, Utah |
This trip was unusual in the fact that we took the kids, which meant I had to drive my car since we could not legally (or physically) all fit on the Harley. This gave my two younger kids the opportunity to take turns riding with Larry and they were so excited about it since this was their first time to be included in one of our trips.
We headed west on I-70 and into Utah. We took the first Cisco exit and it was there that my daughter, Jessi, got on the bike with Larry. We followed the Colorado River through a beautiful canyon.
| When we arrived in Moab, CJ, my son, got on the bike and we went on south to Hole'n the Rock. We did the tour thing - which always reminds me of the Flintstones way of life. There is a home built inside a huge rock, kinda like a cliff. I believe it's about 5,000 square feet. |
After leaving Hole'n the Rock we connected with highway #45 at the LaSal junction and headed east.. This road was a pleasant surprise. We climbed up to an elevation of approximately 7,500 feet - it was nice and cool up at the top. The mountains were pretty with the last of the snow from winter and the signs of spring. Soon we were going down, down, down into Colorado. Right before the last drop there was a pretty view of the Paradox Valley just as you enter Colorado. We were in familiar country and went through the towns of Naturita, Redvale, Norwood and over the Dallas Divide.
| Once again we found ourselves in Ridgway and headed on home through Montrose and Delta. This trip logged another 350 miles to our journal - and another sunburn for Larry! |
On January 25, 2000, our beautiful daughter, Jessi, was killed. She was walking to the school bus, in front of our home, when she was hit by a car, she died instantly. She was only 14, a freshman in high school. About two weeks before the accident Larry was working on his bike, she excitedly talked about riding this summer. We will be taking a ride, in her memory, on her birthday, this year and every year to come. Please take a moment and look at the tribute page I've made for her at https://www.angelfire.com/co4/grumpynam/jessi/tribute.html
