I attended the 2001 Regional Conference for Compassionate Friends, in Denver this past April. It was very helpful in many ways. One of the ideas I brought home with me was to create a memorial garden for Jessi. Since we had her cremated we have no place to go on special days to "be with her". My main challenge was where I could build a garden, our landscaping is "natural", no dirt, just sandstone. We have a nice double deck off our kitchen, so it was only fitting to create a container garden. Below are photos of the flowers I planted for Jessi. Most are pinks and purples, purple was her favorite color.
Petunias
Moss Roses
Cosmos, Allyssium and purple flowers
Marigold, Petunias and I don't remember what the big green one is.
Tomato and pepper to make salsa this fall
Since I'm new at this flower thing it's been a real learning experience. Next year I know which flowers to buy and which ones to leave for someone with a greener thumb. I love pansies, but they all died, as well as the impatiens and quite a few others that remain nameless. Every morning I go out and water Jessi's flowers and sit outside with them while I drink my coffee, it's a nice quiet time to think about her.
