GULF OF MEXICO
There is an oil rig that lies off the shore.
Fifty men are there and sometimes more.
The life there is very hard and rough.
It’s a life for only the brave and tough.
The days are long and the shifts are vast.
Men work hard and the days are long last.
Some rigs are close and others are a hundred miles or more.
Workers there never know what dangers are in store.
The romance of the sea….
Is made up by you and me.
They leave behind their other life…
Family, friends, loved ones or a wife.
Their isolation is beyond our care.
Most of us don’t know they are there.
But, while they work their day long shift…
They are giving the country a valuable gift.
