The
Cincinnati Bengals extended Jon Kitna's contract through the 2005
season, signing him to a one-year deal. The Bengals announced last month
that Carson Palmer, the 2002 Heisman Trophy winner who saw no action in
his rookie season, would be the No. 1 quarterback next season. Moving to
the sidelines is Kitna, who completed 324-of-520 passes for 3,591 yards
and 26 TDs with 15 interceptions in 2003. Cincinnati has not made the
playoffs since 1990, but went 8-8 last season to finish two games behind
first-place Baltimore in the AFC North.
Kitna, who took every
snap for the Bengals in 2003, has spent the last three seasons in
Cincinnati after leaving the Seattle Seahawks.
