Tadpole Dense Variant
This example is noted in Johnson's book as a Tadpole Dense Variant, due to the odd manner of black stripes noticeable on the back of the shirt. When I purchased it, I thought it was a standard Tadpole as the photo provided only showed the front, which at a chance gives little clue to the actual pattern. I wrote to Mr. Johnson and provided photos of the shirt with measurements. He confirmed that this is in fact the Variant pattern, and thus only the 3rd known in existence. Pretty cool! The only defect on the shirt is a small tear (noticeable in the photo) on the right sleeve. Left as we're looking at it.
If you look at the Tadpole Dense page and compare the 1st shirt with the patch, you'll note the difference. Compare the backs of both shirts as they are lined up almost identically. The black stripe difference is not subtle, but rather obvious once you see it.
A close up of the size marking in the neck. It states a US-M and has a 40 inch chest.
