Books and Other Literature:
- Ghost Hunter's Guide To Haunted Ohio by Chris Woodyard (This book is not only super informative, it is also on display in the Ticket Office of the Reformatory itself, as well as for sale in the gift shop of the Reformatory! If that isn't straight from the ghost's mouth...I don't know what is, people!! On the "Acknowledgments" page, Chris mentions the infamous Ike Webb of the "Ohio State Reformatory Preservation Society". The actual stuff about the Reformatory begins on page 1 and goes through page 13...creepy number 13! On page 210 you'll find a web referal for more info on the Reformatory.)
- Treasures of Northeast Ohio by Joseph C. Quinlan (pg. 177, listed in "Appendix B--Index By Subject" under "Police, Prisons"; the actual write-up is on pgs. 108-109. Prices listed are no longer current. They mention that at the time of printing, the Preservation Society was just starting the museum, which is now in full swing. Also, the address is incomplete. But, they list all the basic info.)
Media:
- The Shawshank Redemption-(This fictional film is almost entirely shot at the Mansfield Reformatory, save a few country, island, and about town scenes. Even the "boarding house" where Brooks and Red stay is part of the Reformatory! To see the "parole room", "boarding house", "warden's office", tons of other recognizable scenery and props, and learn the tricky Hollywood secrets behind this film, be sure to take the Hollywood Tour at the Reformatory. Peek at the museum too, for more Shawshank stuff. Last time we were there, you could even buy actual movie props for 5 bucks in the gift shop--books from Andy's beloved library! How cool! There were only a handful left, though, so hurry to get yours!)
