CZW World Heavyweight Title History

The CZW World Heavyweight Title History

The cZw World title was created December 9th 2007, the first World Champion won the title on Jan 10th 2008 The Zodiac Thrilla won the cZw Battle For The Gold rumble. He held the title until "Broken Hearts, Broken Bones" when he agreed to defend the title twice in one night. He lost in the second match to Matt Stylez, and then was brutally attacked by Jesse Montana.

Matt held the title for nearly 2 months, before losing it to Ace King at No Remorse, by a hair. At May Massacre, in a three way dance with King defending against Matt and El Pablo, Matt Stylez became the first multi-time World Heavyweight Champion, starting his second reign.

The reign lasted until Summer Showdown, June 27th, where Matt was defeated by Jesse Montana in CZW's first ever Burial At Sea match, which also had Shawn Waters as the third opponent.

Jesse held the title for a record period of time, until Horrorcore where he lost it in a four way Monster's Ball dance in a Punjabi-like cage, with El Pablo winning the title. Matt Stylez and Ronnie McNeil were also involved with the match.

Maynard O'Toole defeated El Pablo at Beginning of the End on December 31, 2008 to become the world heavyweight champion.

Eric Collum defeated Maynard O'Toole and El Pablo to win the world title on January 31, 2009

Eric held the title until March 28th, when the annual Tower of Power was for the gold itself. Ace King and Shawn Waters met in the finals, with Ace securing his second World title reign.

Summer Showdown 2009 was a historic day in CZW history. It saw the second Ultimate X match in which BOTH the X and WORLD'S titles were on the line. Although Cage lost the X Title, he surpassed that to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Cage held the title for a record breaking reign, passing Jesse's previous record. He defended the title against the likes of Ronnie McNeil and Tim Timmons, before going into the Re-United We Stand PPV facing 7 other men in an elimination chamber. Cage actually won the match, retaining the title. Alan Fiscus cashed in his Money in the Bank after he had already lost the chamber match, and defeated Cage for the title several moments after Cage had pinned him first.

At There Will Be Blood, Jan. 10th 2010, Fiscus successfully defended the title against his arch nemesis Matt Covey in the fifth ever Riot Match. Successfully, maybe, but it was by luck as Covey nailed him with a Blow It Out Your Ass from a balcony and he just HAPPENED to have an arm draped over Covey to get the five count.

At Road To Glory III, on March 21st 2010, Cage Stryker finally got his rematch against Alan for the WHC. In a stretcher match, each man gave it their all but in the end Alan had chained Cage to the stretcher and won the match to close the show.

At Summer Showdown, Karl "The Jackal" Jackson challenged Alan for the title in a HUGELY built up match, with Cage Stryker as the ref, Frank and Godzilla Sawyer in corners, and a 12' fence surrounding the ring. Alan retained, but not by his own doing, as Godzilla turned on The Jackal and shocked the world!

Alan held the title for a record of just over 10 months, until he faced O'Toole, Sawyer, and Mortius in the main event of Hatewave III, in the first ever four way Riot match. His old partner, who he had just made a fool out of the TV show before, ultimately cost Alan the title as he dragged him off of Sawyer while Mortius got the pin fall over Maynard.

However, Mortius' reign was to last only until the next Pay-Per-View, as Eddie Rowan - ironically one of the few people considered a "friend" by Mortius - defeated him at Horrorcore on October 31st 2010 to complete his own long ascent to the top of the wrestling mountain.

CZW was bought out shortly after that by WCWF, but eventually re-opened... with TJ Hix becoming the first champion of the newest incarnation, winning the 2012 King of Combat.

Hix's first defence of the belt came at CZW's Horrorcore iPPV on October 15th, when he took on El Pablo in a match that would see the "Technicolor Tecnico" attempt to achieve what he had at the same event four years earlier and become the new World Heavyweight Champion. In the end, EP was unsuccessful, and Hix was able to leave with title reign intact, but the match was not without controversy, as BOTH men found themselves on the receiving end of violent interference from Ryan Shane and the debuting CRYPT, with Hix being left lying on top of EP to pick up the win.

This led to a triple-threat match at CZW's new flagship iPPV, "Event Horizon" on December 24th in Tokyo, Japan, in which Hix put his belt on the line against BOTH El Pablo and Ryan Shane. EP looked to have the match won after planting Hix with Taste The Rainbow, but was caught immediately upon getting back to his feet by a Sublimation from Shane, who covered Hix for the three-count and finally realised his dream of becoming World Heavyweight Champion.
