The base of operations for the X-Men and home to the Xavier Institute, the Xavier Mansion is located at 1407 Graymalkin Lane in the town of Salem Center in New York State's Westchester County. The mansion belongs to the team's founder, Professor X, and has been in his family's possession for ten generations. A Dutch seafaring ancestor of Xavier's built it of local stone in the 1700s on the edge of Breakstone Lake.
Through the years, the mansion has been electrified, refurbished and modernized. Many of the renovations have involved the installation and construction of facilities for use by the X-Men - including the addition of subterranean hangar buildings, the Danger Room and its support equipment and high-speed transport tunnels. Rebuilt and expanded several times during the last few years with an eye towards personal comfort, space and security, the mansion incorporates advanced alien technology provided by Lilandra of the Shi'ar.
Xavier's estate covers an extensive area between Graymalkin Lane and Breakstone Lake. There is an Olympic-size swimming pool directly to the rear of the mansion. Elsewhere on the property are stables and a boathouse. On the side of the mansion is a hedge maze, designed by the famous mutant landscaper, Giancarlo Betto. Hangars and a takeoff pad for the X-Men's Blackbird jet are located directly below the basketball court, which is retractable. These facilities may be reached from the mansion by means of high-speed magnetic rail cars that travel through an underground tunnel.
Defenses: Most of the defenses are passive by nature. Rm alarms align the main roads and paths and surround the major buildings. The main building has In rank silent alarms on all doors and windows. If any alarm is tripped, it will be noted in security monitors in the Headmaster's Office, the Danger Room, the hangar bay, the labs and the briefing rooms.
Mansion Grounds: The manison occupies a 3-mile long, 1-mile wide plot of land on the shore of Breakstone Lake. Most of the land is wooded with low hills rising to the east. The boathouse is connected to the main mansion by underground tunnels. A Very Low Frequency (VLF) antenna is buried beneath the grounds to pick up communications from around the globe and throughout outer space.
