The
Character
Slipping from shadow to shadow slides a living patch
of darkness. Her name is
Inque, and she is a corporate spy and saboteur. Created in a mysterious
genetic experiment, Inque now sells herself to the highest bidder,
using her liquid, metamorphing body to sneak into enemy corporations
and cause massive destruction.
Powers hires her to attack a competing corporation
owned by the son of Bruce Wayne's old vice president. However, she
doesn't expect an encounter with Batman. Frozen using Freeze's ray
gun in their first encounter she escaped from her icy prison to
fight batman again. This time she captures Batman, forcing Bruce
to don the mantle of Batman again. In the end she apparently dies
in the rain.
Parallels
and Thoughts
It's interesting that the first arch-villain that
Terry faces is female. It's not that surprising though, considering
that the most female villains from Batman: The Animated Series are
among the most popular characters of the show. Inque is a female
equivalent of Clay face, but is both darker and more liquid. She
lives in the darkness, and can infiltrate even the most secure areas.
Though her origin is not disclosed, it seems to have similarities
to what happened to Matt Hagen to make him Clay face, an accident
at the hands of a large corporation. They share the same weakness
of water, but Inque seems to be more powerful, and a more dangerous
opponent.
