Character
The Terrific Trio were formerly scientists, whose
forms were altered when they were bathed in extreme radiation. Now
Magma, Freon, and 2-D Man are reluctant superheroes who seek to
find a cure for their state. But when they find out that their condition
is irreversible, and they are betrayed by both the government and
their best friend, their plan for revenge endangers all of Gotham,
and brings them into conflict with the Batman.
Parallels
and Thoughts
The similarity between the Terrific Trio and Marvel's
Fantastic Four are almost mockingly obvious.  Both
teams even work out of their own private towers. But unlike Marvel's
premier superhero team, the Terrific Trio are tragic figures, cursed
with powers that make them freaks to the rest of the world. Though
some may consider them villains, as they go bad in the end, at heart
they were truly decent people who just couldn't cope with the powers
they were granted.
