Buffy Season One Review

When I first sat down to watch my first episode of Buffy I have to admit I was expecting to see something along the lines of the movie, which really wasn't that good, but made a good rain filled afternoon of fun. I was however surprised when the show started. Straight away it was much darker, much more with the times and much better written. We were introduced to a strong lead, which was played expertly by Sarah Michelle Gellar, a wonderful villian in The Master and good performances all round by the rest of the cast, espically by David Boreanaz, which in one of his first roles shows great potential. Although in some parts the sets looked like they were about to fall apart and the fight scenes, although well crafted and played out still had the freshman look to them. However, this made the show so watchable, and addactive and above all successful. The show did not lay in its own problems, unlike the other offerings of the time such as Party of Five or My So-Called Life, don't get me wrong, Buffy wasn't completly in the realm of imagination, dating, romance and death were all touched upon, but it didn't drag down the entire show. All in all a fantastic first season for a new an innoative show.
