Title: Wish You Were Here

Rating: G

She sat on the beach alone. Alone. She had spent the last week around people. Always with someone, never alone. Alone. She needed this, to be alone. To allow herself to feel what she'd tried to deny.

~I dig my toes into the sand
The ocean looks like
A thousand diamonds strewn
Across a blue blanket
I lean against the wind
Pretend I am weightless
And in this moment
I am happy happy~

The wind was like strong hands, lifting her up gently. Hands. His hands.

~I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here~

She felt tears in her eyes, stinging and burning. Tears unshed ever since his... death. He'd tried to save her. He... The tears leaked from the corners her eyes, glistening trails on her face in the moonlight. She fell back to lay on her back.

~I lay my head onto the sand
The sky resembles
A backlit canopy
With holes punched in it
I'm counting UFOs
I signal them with my lighter
And in this moment
I am happy happy~

Maybe... maybe one of those flashing, shooting stars was him, on his bike, flying back here to laugh at them for thinking anyone could kill "Th' Top Teen". The thought made her laugh and cry all at once.

~I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here~

Once she started, it was impossible to stop. Tears, dammed up for too long, burst through in a torrent, leaving her incapable of anything more than beating on the ground from the unfairness of it all. She couldn't tell how long it was she sobbed out her grief and love, but eventually, the tears slowed, stopped, and left her feeling strangely calm. And almost empty. She knew she would never be the same. But... She had to progress... She had to make sure he didn't die in vain.

~The world's a roller coaster
And I am not strapped in
Maybe I should hold with care
My hands are busy in the air
Saying~

She sat up and shook the sand off of her, and out of her hair. Slowly, she rose to her feet and rubbed her face. She looked up at the sky and blew a final kiss at the stars.

~I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here~

The wind caressed her face, and she smiled, feeling his hands in the wind. She sighed, and prepared to stand when a hand fell on her shoulder. Her eyes widened and she turned to see Lobo's rough smile shining down on her. "Hey there, 'Nita. Miss me?"

Author's Notes: I Have fallen completely in love with this song, ever since I heard it on the radio a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, I felt another songfic coming, and now it's out of my system. And, it's a slight departure from the darkness that's been most of today's fare. And it gives me a chance to write something sweet. ^^
