Dave Foley short biography

Full Name- David Scott Foley
•  Birthdate- January 4, 1963
•  Hometown(s)- Toronto, ON,
•  Family- Tabitha Southey (ex-wife, 1991-1997), Edmund "Ned" (son, b. 1991), Basil (son, b. 1995) Crissy Guerrero (ex- wife 2002-2008 ?)  Alina Chiara ( daughter, b. April 16th 2003)

Dave was born to Mary and Michael Foley, in a suburb of Toronto. He was their second child, and grew up with two siblings, an older brother and a younger sister. He dropped out of an alternative high school at the age of 17 to pursue comedy. He began by taking classes at Second City in Toronto where he met Kevin McDonald. They both worked together as ushers at a local art house movie theater and together formed the original Kids in the Hall .Dave met his now ex-wife in a bar when he was 20 and she was 17. He has said that their relationship began when, right after being introduced to each other, they began arguing over whether the lead vocalist of the group The Psychedelic Furs was a good singer. They got divorced in 1997 and Dave got married again to Crissy Guerrero( singer)  August 1º 2002. The had a baby girl named Alina Chiara Foley ( actress) in 2003.

Trivia
  • During NewsRadio's run, Dave made it into the scandal sheets, which reported that he drank 50 cups of coffee a day.

adicto al cafe

  • Dave won the Film Showcase Jury Award for Best Screenplay for The Wrong Guy at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in 1998 (shared with Jay Kogen and David Anthony Higgins). Dave was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Film Performance Male for his role in The Wrong Guy in 2000.

  •  Dave is 5'9" tall.
  •  Dave is generally regarded as being the best looking woman ... even bearing a striking resemblance to actress/model Isabella Rossellini. As Dave has said himself, "I'm a fine looking woman. Y'know, I'm a handsome gal and really, a pretty mediocre man."

  • Dave has often said that he feels the best "performing chemistry" with Kevin McDonald. When asked about working with him on the film The Wrong Guy Dave responded, "Playing a scene with Kevin is like the easiest thing in the world, since we know each other's rhythms so well after working together for 14 years."

  • As mentioned earlier, Dave dropped out of high school at age 17 ... he later found out that difficulties he had with his schoolwork were due to his unknowingly suffering from dyslexia.
  • Dave says green is his favorite color "because it is soothing and calms the heart".
  • Dave is a big fan of the alternative music group Barenaked Ladies . He is often spotted at their concerts in California, and is even thanked by the group in the "Thanks, Eh" section of the liner notes for their album Stunt . Dave also rocks to the beats of REM, The Odds, Aimee Mann, The Killjoys, and Sloan.
  • Addiction? Most definitely. Dave is rarely seen without a cup of coffee in his hand. In fact, it was at one time reported that he drank up to 50 cups a day (ack!). He used to take cream and sugar, but since he drinks so much of it, he now takes it black. Several references to his "addiction" have been made on episodes of NewsRadio .
  • Dave names steak as his favorite food and beer as his favorite drink (after coffee, of course!)
  • Dave is an avid watcher of Canadian television, but he has mentioned that he is also a big fan of the classic American comedy Green Acres , Upright Citizens Brigade, and South Park.
  • Dave's current hobbies include electronics and taking 3D photographs.
  • When he was a kid, Dave had a cat named Duchess after a character in the Disney film "The Aristocats".
  • For one of his scenes as Al Bean in the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon, Dave didn't have to dress in drag ... or much else for that matter. In order to realistically portray an actual incident in which the astronauts had to be decontaminated, he was required to (very quickly) bare his, um, backside.

  • When he was in his late-thirties, Dave could easily pass for a college kid. He has said that his "babyface" is actually very often an asset to him - "Since my humor tends to be a little on the dark side, a little morbid ... my innocent 'visage' has made it a little easier for me to get away with things that maybe some of the other Kids couldn't have gotten away with. I could say some pretty horrible things, and everyone would say 'Aw, look at the cute axe murderer !'"

Dave Quotes

"I'm a Canadian. It's like an American but without a gun."

"In America, they figure The Kids In The Hall were all gay anyway. If they weren't why would they hang out with a gay guy, and why would they kiss each other and wear dresses?"

"When I go to meet people about movies, I tell them up front, 'Hire me if you will, but know that it will not be released.'"

On Hollywood gossip and the tabloids: "What are they going to say? That I once had a closet full of women's clothes? It's true."

"I always thought I'd be in showbuisiness, but I never set out to be in showbuisiness."

On which KITH character is his favourite: "I would find it hard to pick one. It wouldn't be right. You see, I think of them all as my children. However, I can say that the character who most closely resembles me is Joycelyn the French-Canadian prostitute. Let's face it: I'm one sexy bitch."

"I do look good in a dress... I'm a fine lookin' woman. Y'know, I'm a handsome gal, and really, a pretty mediocre man. Which is sad. You know, my whole adolescence would have been much more successful if I had been a girl. But, you only live once."

On his NewsRadio character getting demoted: "I don't give a fuck what happens to Dave Nelson, so long as Dave Foley still has the best parking space and the biggest dressing room."

"And, I was with the Kids in the Hall last night at the premiere, and we're all getting along fine, kids on the Internet, relax! We're friends!"

On his role in "A Bug's Life": "This is the first time I've done anything people can feel comfortable bringing their children to - without worrying about Children's Aid stepping in."

"America's a very prudish country. Things that have no impact anywhere else in the world can cause huge upheavals here. Canadians have neither the fear nor the idolatry of sex Americans have."

Why his NewsRadio character was revealed to be from Canada in the show: "The writers just wanted the opportunity to make fun of the way I talk."

"When we were doing the club show, we got tired of writing about guys, and we couldn't get any women to stay in our group. Everytime someone would perform, they would get a job somewhere, and so it's just us that-- we couldn't get jobs anywhere."

"It's fun playing women. It's a good challenge, and it helped me in general as a performer, but I don't hanker for my skirt and heels."

On wether he can speak other languages like he does on TV: "I just learned the phrases that were necessary for the show. I'm an idiot. Thanks for bringing it up, though."

"By the time you go down to L.A., you've got 10 years under your belt, and everyone says, 'Wow, these Canadians are really professional! And skillful.' Obviously, it's not so much about Canadians, it's just that Americans aren't really funny, so we have to go down there and fill the void."

Discussing an episode of 'NewsRadio': "The Halloween episode... my return to drag-- my first time playing drag really, because it was the first time I ever played a man in a dress, because I've always played women in dresses. So it was really weird trying to figure out, "Well, how do I do that? How feminine do I make my body posture?" Obviously, as you can see, that's not much of a big stretch for me. And really, it was just a cheap attempt to please the Kids In The Hall fans- that was the idea behind it."

"My innocent 'visage' has made it a little easier for me to get away with things that maybe some of the other Kids couldn't have gotten away with. I could say some pretty horrible things, and everyone would say 'Aw, look at the cute axe murderer!'"

"It's hard to picture us as a blockbuster. We thrive on being underappreciated."

"It's kinda nice to come in and just be a fella for a whole night."

To Scott, after the Kids are given makeup cases for the tour: "And Scott, when you lose your's, the appropriate solution isn't to steal someone else's."

When asked what to expect from the tour: "Really old sketches and a lot of tension."

On working with real women: "It's a very pleasant change. Kids was a bit of a boys' club. Maybe we weren't the most masculine boys in the world, but we were all boys."

His 'On The Line' character, Mr. Higgins: "He's basically a guy who wants to lead Kevin down the same path of dissatisfaction he's followed all his life."

"Most of Hollywood perceives me as gay already. They've got what they figure is a pretty air-tight case. I played gay characters on Kids and regularly dressed as a woman. Then there's the fact that Scott Thompson is openly gay. The fact I kissed him numerous times on the show makes me gay by association."
