After scientist Howard Avery takes a serum that turns him into a gigantic monster, he goes on a rampage. While chasing his girlfriend, the serum proves only temporary, and Howard is restored to normal. He then burns his notes to avoid another Brute being created.

The Brute, or rather a larger monster resembling him, was among the monsters summoned by the Mole Man to greet Adam Warlock upon his arrival on Monster Island.
