An unnamed big-game hunter, currently reduced to gathering African folk art for trade instead of hunting animals, comes across an enmormous wooden statue in the middle of a jungle.

However, the statue proved to be alive, and revealed its plan: all the other statues that had been exported from the region were all members of his alien race, waiting to be activated by him. All over the world, the creatures came to life, and take over the Earth.

At the bleakest moment, a witch-doctor, whom the game hunter had scoffed at earlier, appeared. With some unspecified potion he presented, Moomba became ill and immobile. The witch-doctor agreed to release the spell if Moomba and his followers would leave the earth forever. Moomba agreed and, at the shaman's orders, erased humanity's memories of his appearance (so that they would not fear wooden statues that were not of his making).

In an alternate reality, Moomba was one of several aliens and monsters summoned by the villain Jack O' Lantern to attack the world. The creatures were defeated by a group of supernatural crusaders.
