SO YOU WANT TO GO TO A CONVENTION

(orig. released June 7, 1952)

Over Alice's objections, Joe decides to go to his annual Owls convention in Omaha with his friend "Good Time" Charlie (Jackson Wheeler). Once aboard their plane, Charlie confesses that he has actually routed himself and Joe to a "girl-ogling" convention in Palm Springs. Then, after a night of frolicking, Joe calls home and finds out that Alice is leaving town for a few days of R&R in Palm Springs. You can pretty well guess how it goes from there.

Considering that this is another of those cliched sitcom situations, it's amazing how funny this short actually is. The high energy level evinced by O'Hanlon and Wheeler doesn't hurt. Wheeler, especially, seems a lot more comfortable now that he's no longer trying to pass himself off as Homer Hatbox. Funny, too, how the next McDoakes short is titled So You Never Tell a Lie, when that title fits this short just as well.
