Joe is back in Roman-gladiator times, having to fight a lion in a huge arena after having offended King Nero (Rodney Bell).
You'd think that Joe McDoakes in a spoof of 1950's gladiator epics would be a sure thing, but this one is pretty tiresome from the get-go. Rodney Bell, who usually plays dim-witted neighbor Marvin, does an awful Charles Laughton impression as Nero. Even George O'Hanlon seems decidedly earthbound in this short. This kind of spoofery was done much better in Mel Brooks' later History of the World - Part I (1981).
