SO YOU'RE HAVING IN-LAW TROUBLE

(orig. released Aug. 27, 1948)

Joe is ready for a quiet Sunday dinner, when his wife Alice informs him that her side of the family is coming over to join them. And thoughtfully, they've brought packed bags so that they can live with Joe and Alice for the remainder of the year.

This set of stereotypes is topped by an even worse set -- Joe's parents, thick with Irish brogues. They've also brought along Joe's cousin, a curvy blonde named Elly Mae, solely so that she can get Joe into trouble with Alice by always wanting to kiss him.

The movie has a few laughs but doesn't really pick up speed until our old friend Homer (priceless Clifton Young) shows up to be his usual braggadoccio self. Strangely, in this instance, Homer is Joe's brother-in-law instead of his co-worker, but at this point, who cares? (He also provides the movie's punch line, another nice moment of this mostly middling short.)
