The Legend of the Silent Bear

Paul Kirk is enjoying a quiet weekend at a rustic vacation cottage with his friend, George. George's twin sons, Timmy and Tommy, who are Boy Scouts, tell them that they are going to go hunting for a bear with their air rifles. The two boys went off and snuck upon a castle-shaped house. They laid hidden within some bushes and were aiming to shoot at the giant bear statue that sits on the front lawn of the place. Suddenly, a strange man appoaches the bear statue and places his hand inside the mouth of the statue. Then, the man screams out in pain from his hand being caught in a mouse trap, cleverly planted inside the mouth. After the man runs off, the boys begin taking shots at the bear statue with their air rifles. Suddenly, a door opens within the bear's chest. It is then that an old man, with a shotgun, chases the two boys off the property. The boys ran all the way home, coming upon their father and Kirk at the swimming hole. They then told them what had happened at that house. To make sense of the situation, George then goes to say that the boys were probably at the home of a man named Ben Raspp, a rich recluse who is rumored to have a huge fortune hidden on his property.
That night, Paul Kirk, under the guise of Manhunter, asends upon the castle-shaped house. Meanwhile, three armed men had forced their way inside the place and confront Ben Raspp, demanding to know the secret of the giant bear statue. Just as Raspp pulled a gun to defend himself, he is shot dead by their leader. Manhunter then notices the commotion and comes upon Raspp's body. He then notices the three thugs were outside examining the giant bear statue and proceeds to attack them. In midst of the fray, one of the thugs was able to take a shot at Manhunter at point blank range and although he wasn't hit, he was blinded from powder burns he recieved from the discharging weapon. As the thugs ran off, Manhunter blindily makes his way into the deep forest and sits to wait until dawn, in hopes that someone will find him.
As dawn breaks, a Boy Scout named Jimmy Jones discovers Manhunter. He then helps Manhunter by tracking the route of the fleeing thugs for him, guiding him all the way. As the two were following the trail, Manhunter's sight was returning. The end of the trail finds the thugs at a cave below a cliff. Manhunter then rapells down the cliff into the cave to face the thugs. The falling rocks from his descent alarmed the thugs and they come out of the cave shooting. He then tackles the thugs and defeat them. The leader of the thugs tells Manhunter his name is Harry Raspp and that Ben Raspp was his uncle, who disowned him because of his gambling problem and he decied to rob him of his fortune, instead of letting him donate all his money to charity. Manhunter then returned to the Raspp house and figured out how to open the door of the giant bear statue. Inside the statue was Ben Raspp's entire fortune and will; and as stipulated, all the money is to be given to charity.

A few days later, Paul Kirk donates a clubhouse to Boy Scout Jimmy Jones' troop.
