The Bull Inn

Bottesford is a small village just off the A52, between Grantham and Nottingham. In olden days, mail carriages would thunder through the village, carrying the post from Nottingham to London and all points between.

The Bull Inn stands at the crossroads. It is a very picturesque place, and has a connection with our friends. Olga, Stan's sister, and husband Bill Healey were the proprietors in the 1950s.

Easter 1952 was a very special time for the Jefferson family, when brother Arthur returned to his loving family for the first time in many years. Stan brought his partner Ollie, and their two wives for a relaxing time between shows. On Easter Sunday afternoon, the party arrived. "Footlight" from the old newspaper Nottingham Guardian reported that the Boys were constantly playing around. They ate a Sunday roast dinner, and enjoyed beer.

The plaque on the side of the pub is a little misleading. The Boys actually returned here again at Christmas in 1953, not 1952. At this time, they enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner and the Boys pulled pints for the locals.

Visitors to the Bull today, are always made welcome. One side of the pub is fairly unremarkable, while the lounge has a large collection of Laurel and Hardy photos and memorabilia in it. Every year, in Summer, the Beau Hunks tent in Nottingham hold a special meeting at the Bull, playing games, showing films, eating and drinking. Definitely one to investigate.

The nearest Sons of the Desert Tent is the Beau Hunks Tent in Nottingham. For more information about the tent, please contact :
