Detective Corbeau of the Neopolis Police Department is strong, intellectual... and a devil worshiper. Don't let that last bit put you off, though.

"King Peacock" believes God created the multiverse and abandoned His creation, leaving it to Melek Taus, a ("the"?) devil. Peacock's religious devotions give him the prophetic ability to communicate with matter since "all matter is Melek Taus," and Melek Taus talks to Peacock.

As you can imagine, Corbeau's insight into and communication with the material world gives him unique detective skills. However, it also allows him the ability to manipulate physical objects because he can simply "ask" an object what it takes to move it, destroy it, or whatever else needs to be done.
