I My Me! Strawberry Eggs Rating: Genre: Comedy, Drama, Fan Service Studio: TNK Year: 2001 Length: 13 episodes Reviewer: ThunderEmperor Synopsis: Hibiki Amawa needs a job desperately. His landlady tends to shoot her tenants with a pistol (real pistol) who can't pay, and she's already taken his pet dog as hostage. Hibiki's not worried though, because he's pretty sure can get a job teaching athletics at the posh high school nearby. But when Hibiki tries applying there, he finds out that they don't hire male teachers. Hibiki's landlady decides to help Hibiki assume the role of a woman... and so Hibiki's teaching career begins. Review: I was really looking forward for I My Me! Strawberry Eggs especially when it's from the same people who brought one of my all-time favorite anime, Hand Maid May. Now that I finally have this title in my own hands, I couldn't ask for anything else. I was hooked as soon as I watched the first episode. Don't ask me about strawberries and eggs 'coz I don't know. Hibiki cross-dressing to become a teacher with the help of his landlady (see 1st screenshot) is quite amazing. His landlady has everything he needs from clothes to make-ups to accessories, which makes things very convenient for Hibiki. For example: Hibiki has a very deep voice, his landlady lets him borrow a choker in a form of a heart (see 2nd screenshot) that changes his "he" voice to a "she". Whenever Hibiki is in trouble about his female self, his landlady is here, there and almost about anywhere to help him (which makes things unrealistic for this title). I like the relationship of Hibiki and Fuuko. Fuuko is falling for the female Hibiki and so as Hibiki falling for Fuuko as episodes goes by. It has this lesbian-like feel *giggle*. Situations Hibiki come across are all hilarious when he's in his wrong self, in the wrong place and in the wrong time. Things are not as easy for Hibiki when the school's vice-principal is doubtful of Hibiki's true identity. The vice-principal would do anything to prove that Hibiki is a male. The art and animation are very good but not as good as Hand Maid May's. Some of the episodes have simple animation. The character designs looked a little different from Hand Maid May (which is a good thing) but still are nice. Nobody in I My Me! resembles somebody in Hand Maid May. The opening and ending themes are catchy especially the opening theme "Dearest" which is very pleasant to the ears (don't forget nice background music). Panty shots (fan service) are somehow lessened here in I My Me! (I guess it's okay). Let's say, if Hand Maid May's amount of fan service is 100%, I My Me! is 30%. All of the characters are likeable... even Hibiki's weirdo friends (you may not like the perverted weirdoes Mori-chan and Kochi-chan but I find them very funny). My favorite character is Hibiki and Fuuko. At first, I thought Hibiki is a very perverted character and I'm glad he isn't while Fuuko is the type of girl I want for a girlfriend. I should also mention that there are two seiyuus (voice actors) responsible for the voices of the two Hibikis. Kishi Yuji for the male Hibiki and Masuda Yuki for the female Hibiki, so both Hibikis, male or female, look good. The ending is one of those types that you'll like and hate but if you want my opinion on the ending, I was a little disappointed but happy at the same time. I will not explain what happened. It's a bit open-ended but if you keep your mind to it, you'll figure out what future lies ahead for our main characters. It's not abrupt like the likes of Kare Kano, Saikano, Those Who Hunt Elves, etc. I really had fun watching I My Me! like the way I enjoyed watching Hand Maid May. It was a very decent viewing experience. Even though I am only giving a 4.5-star rating for this anime, I My Me! Strawberry Eggs is worthy enough for a 5-star rating. People who don't agree with me are crazy. Halt! Don't press that "Search" button... if you are looking for a fresh, wholesome and decent anime with light-hearted humor, slice-of-life stories and all to watch that will complete your day with heart-warming results, a smile on yer face and a song, I My Me! Strawberry Eggs is recommended. |
