Sir William Bruce builder of Kinross house had provided for the failure of the male line. His daughter, Anne, married Sir Thomas Hope (4th Baronet of Craighaw) and then, after his death, Sir John Carstairs of Kilconquhar. She was succeeded by her second son who became Sir Thomas Bruce-Hope of Kinross. The Estate eventually passed to the only son of Anne Bruce's second marriage to Sir John Carstairs and he took on the name Bruce of Kinross, thus the Kinrosses were born. Moira Kinross was born inside the halls of Kinross House to Lord and Lady Kinross in a brisk morning a few days into winter. Growing up Moira excelled in her school studies. Moira proved to be a brilliant student of the biological sciences and selected genetics and biology as her specialty when she was admitted to Oxford. She choose that field of study for several reasons, one of them being Kevin. After receiving her bachelors and then masters degree, she chose the field of genetics for her doctorate. Working with the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics which undertook research into the genetic basis of such diseases as diabetes, psychiatric disorders, and obesity. While pursuing her education, Moira kept her thoughts onto her littlest brother Kevin. Kevin was Moira's younger brother by seven years. About the time that Moira started her college education, Kevin began to develop odd powers such as twisted rooms. As a result, their father was forced to keep Kevin in a secluded facility on Muir Island where scientists were taken in secret to try and help Kevin. This was the main reason Moira had chosen the field of genetics. She wanted to help her younger brother. Completing her education, Moira accepted a position teaching biology and other sciences at the prestigious school of St. Augustines. She could have gone and studied with any institution that she wished. Instead she choose to become a teacher. Her reasons were varied by the primary one was that it provided her with time off to spend with her little brother while most institutions did not.
