Birth name: William Dafoe
Age: 47
DOB: 22-07-55
Height: 5' 6 1/2"
Birthplace: Appleton, Wisconsin
FYI:
He joined Milwaukee's experimental Theater X troupe as a teen, then moved to New York in 1977, where he joined the avant-garde theater company, Wooster Group.
He has a son, Jack, who I think is going into acting as well....(I may be wrong, but if he is....maybe he's just as good as his dad)...and he lives with Elizabeth LeCompte, his partner of 20 years or so (that's a LONG time to stay together w/o getting married, if you ask me)..
His parents weren't too thrilled with his career choice ("My parents were working people and my house was chaos....so as long as I wasn't in jail they were happy."), and while in college he rebelliously changed his name to "Willem".
Dafoe says he feels like he's missed out on more conventional roles because he's perceived as an eccentric actor in dark little films, kind of the boy-next-door type -- if you lived next door to a mausoleum.
He did most of his own stunts in "Spider-Man", including the last fight scene with Tobey...."I loved doing the physical stuff. I think Tobey was a little scared of me. It's not that I was trying to frighten him, but in some of the more conventional kicking and punching stuff you got to make contact."
"Willem's like a big kid who just want to get in there and play," says his co-star Maguire. "Actually he's got a really sweet and funny personality. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever worked with."
(Awww...^_^)
Actually, John Malkovich was originally intended for the role of the Goblin, but when he declined, Dafoe stepped in. (Personally, I don't believe anyone else could have filled in the role as nicely as Willem did...^_-)
Willem admits never reading comics as a kid because he was too busy "being" a comic. lol

Interviews:
Entertainment Weekly - an interview with Willem talking about his role as the villianous Green Goblin
Prevue Magazine - this is part of a little spread they did on Power Profies (people up and coming in movies for 2002), and there's a whole article on Willem....^_^
Dafoe's Role as Green Goblin Isn't the Stretch It Might Seem - another interview about Willem's Green Goblin role.
TV Guide Insider - short, but sweet.
More interviews - this page has several different interviews, all very interesting. Look for the cute reference he makes about his son, Jack. ^_^
Goblin Guy - this interview is from a Starlog special issue on Spider-Man and comic heroes in general. It's short. I spent some time transcribing it, so if you want to borrow it, please ask.
Mean, Green Fighting Machine/Gliding Into Action - these two articles are from the official Spider-Man Movie magazine. I spent some time transcribing it, so ask before you take.
The Man In The Mask - An interview with Willem from the British magazine The Big Issue. This was kindly provided by Steph, so if you want to borrow it, you'll have to ask her.
Bridge-jumping Urges/Dafoe's Spider Sense - Two very short interviews of Willem discussing his facination with bridges and his character, Norman Osborn.
Shadow of the Green Goblin - this article is from Starlog Magazine and it's kinda long. I transcribed it myself, so if you want to borrow it for your site, please ask me first.
I have one last interview to post (Biography Magazine), but it's taking a while. I can't type fast, lol. So stay tuned for further developments....
