Kaykai soon reminded Dashrath of his promise to choose Bharat as the next King. When King Dashrath proposed her, he promised to elect Kaykai's son to be his successor. Because of this, Kaykai demanded the King to cancel his decision to elect Ram as the King. Hearing the Kaykai's demand, King Dashrath became very sad.

...After meeting Ram in the jungle, Parashuram asked Ram to kill him using his own bow. If Ram could not lift the bow, he must be willing to be killed by Parashuram . Ram agreed upon that request. Ravan became angry and he drew his weapon. The fight was joined in the sky. Jatayu was badly hurt so that he could not fly again. Knowing that Jatayu defended her, Sita released her ring then threw it to Jatayu to hand to Ram. Jatayu fell to the ground, bleeding.

Sugriv wanted to see Ram's skill in archery. With pleasure, Ram agreed to show his skill. In the middle of the forest, there were seven palm trees. With one shot, Ram's arrow knocked down those seven trees.   Sugriv and Hanuman were impressed upon seeing Ram's skill in archery.
