This is awesome! The 1st
release of Wolverine in action figure form was here in the Secret Wars line and
you also get the chance of this SUPER AMAZINGLY PHENOMALLY RARE catalog/store
exclusive back in 1984! The silver claws version
MOC goes for about $50, the black claws version MOC regularly goes for $85.
Now keep in mind that these are auction prices, store/book prices are much
higher. Both of those versions were readily available. This one ain’t.
Probably the rarest Wolverine collectable out there, and definitely the LEAST
WELL KNOWN. To date, I’ve seen
2 of these. I got one, and the other I didn’t go after. I figured that
I had one, so I should let someone else get that other one. This white mailer
multi-pack is one special item to find. The story behind it is very iffy and
no one I’ve found knows too much about it. I found this one on eBay
and paid about $50 for it. Even today, I consider it one of the ultimate
steals I’ve gotten off of eBay, or anywhere for that matter. The person
I got this (and my Iron Man vs. Magneto) claimed it came from an ex-Mattel
employee who thought they’d like it, and gave it as a gift. I found one
other person who had a Wolverine vs. Kang and said that they bought it from a
department store. They couldn’t remember which store-so the history
remained murky. It has now been listed
in Toyfare at the great price of $50. If you have one, I’d gladly pay
that to you for it! It comes in a white
mailer box and has no pictures anywhere on it other than the Secret Wars
logo. I’ve done as much snooping as I could, and finally discovered the
origin of the item. Jason Geyer suggested
that it was available in a Mail order catalog for the 1984 Christmas season
which sounded right to me. The other mailer box also only contains 1st
series figures which helps us put a date on it. The Big update is that I
found out where it probably came from. I found it in the Sears Wish Book
catalog from 1984. There might be more exclusives out there seeing as how it
took about 16 years to have these discovered! If you look at the bottom left,
you’ll see the two packs listed! In addition to the Iron Man vs.
Magneto, it looks like there was also a Spider-Man vs. Doctor Octopus.
