Original Broadcast Date: Jan. 4, 1970
Attempted Synopsis: Lots of men fall past the window of some nonchalant office workers; some TV pundits get very worked up about very little; a political candidate named Hilter seems oddly familiar; a man tries to report a burglary to policemen with varying degrees of hearing; The Upperclass Twit of the Year competition; a father has no qualms giving away his daughter to a shabby man named, er, Shabby; a political candidate gives a speech and falls into the Earth's core.
Review: Nearly as fascinating as it is funny, just to see the workouts that the Pythons get out of freeing their ids: John Cleese shattering sound barriers as a neo-Hitler (a warm-up for Cleese's famous "The Germans" episode of his later series Fawlty Towers); Michael Palin as Ken Shabby, who should never be allowed near a breathing woman; and all of the Pythons loosing their inhibitions as Twit competitors (their attempts to undo female mannequins' bras is worth sitting through the entire segment). Then there's that guy who falls into the Earth's core: Amazing, isn't it, that (a) the Earth's core looks like a Terry Gilliam doodle, (b) anyone can find a rope long enough to rescue the guy, and (c) a BBC camera just happens to be placed far enough into the Earth's core to record this man's plight. I guess great comedy really doesn't explain, does it?
Priceless Gag: Ken Shabby describes the prospect of a promotion at his toilet-cleaning job: "After five years, they give me a brush."
