A Flaw

by Sketch

A flaw.

There is a flaw. A flaw that people overlook, because the flaw shows up over, and over again. A flaw that people deny, because it is a flaw based on the righteousness of man, over, and over again.

The flaw that swallowed up Nazi Germany. The flaw that swallowed up the samurai and fuedalism of Japan. The flaw that swallowed up the Roman Empire. The flaw that swallowed up Iraq. The flaw that threatens every government in existance.

The flaw that drove our country to it's existance.

The fundamental human flaw of idealistic power. Rigidity and stagnation in the face of a changing world. A government that refuses to give up it's principles, it's institutions, it's ways. A governement that is swallowed up by time itself. As if time were an entity, given tangable force by humanity as it overthrows, detroys, or otherwise breaks away from these governments.

It is such a romantic ideal. Dying for what is right. Going down with the noble fight, even if all in vain. Looking twoards the past for the answers to the present. Foresaking the future all in the name of righteousness.

And so it goes.

The foundation of our country is a contradiction hoped to be remedied by hope itself. Escaping religious tyranny of England and Rome, but not their faith....

The trust in god was prevalant in the foundation of our country. That we will be a nation under God. Under the TRUE God. But at the same time a country that will trust in it's people.

The lesson in all of it was the lesson of being humble.

The founders were not stupid. In fact, I'm amazed by their insight.

To create a government that basses itself on a religion's values.. to mold men to be humble in the face of a creator. To be humble in the face of something bigger than mankind - lest the men in power think themselves the mighty. Above all else.

Yet the founders knew the folly of tempering this government into a instrument of religious authority. The lesson of being humble so quickly turned into a weapon. Mandate of God tyrants. Men in power who think they are not only rulers of the people. But RIGHTEOUS rulers of the people. Rulers destined to rule from God. Their morality unquestionable because surely, in a government founded on such a righteous and goodly religion that there could be no ill will.

Power corrupts. Justification allows this corruption to stay in place. Justification to at first, help the people. Justification later, opress them.

No, the founders knew the flaw of man. They knew the flaw of idealistic power. The founders were godly men, but they were men who knew that the power of God could only serve as a power of the heart. As a power that could only grow in freedom. In places of worship that hold a seperate place in the hearts and minds of people.

These men knew that God could not grow in domination. These men knew that God could not grow in man-instituted rule.

And so it was.

Foundation.

This country would not be founded if tradition were not broken. This country was created by those who think in the present for the future. Not those who look to the past for every justification. These men would hope for the future. Set a foundation that would allow for change and transition. A foundation that could grow and flourish to serve the people in a just and fair way.

Just.

It seems that there are those in this country that would like time to stand still for their values. These people would like this country to stay as it is. These people would like to conserve the things that are so right, lest they give way to the insecurities of the future.

It is terrifying to some to see these values slip away in the hands of the populous. To see such 'wrongs' take hold and sacrafice what is right.

Mistrust.

And so people stop trusting in their fellow man. They stop trusting in the good intentions of their neighbors. They stop trusting in the goodness of the populous.

They seek to preserve righteouness by throwing righteousness in the hands of those with power. To let these men in power FORCE righteousness on everyone. A last hope, for the romantic ideal. To make the hearts and minds one with the power.

The flaw bred by insecurity. The flaw.

Once again surfacing. Idealistic power.

The belief that the majority may loose out in the future. "Hopefully not" but that it may. Lack of faith in their fellow man. In the good intentions of their neighbors.

And so it is.

The President of the United States has currently pled his support for idealitic power. In preserving ideals of sanctity in the very roots of power itself, untouchable and righteous forevermore.

The people themselves.. mayors in cities, people from all over in these cities commiting themselves to BREAK THE LAW in the struggle against idealistic power.

The pointless polarization bred from insecurity. An isnecurity that threatens to rip the country apart.

A government that will not surrender it's ideals in the face of a changing world. A government that will force it's people to conform to tradition, to stagnation and conserve it's 'rightness'.

The romantic ideal. Fight for a cause. And in this cause, see God's will.

And we expect to be one. To hold unity in the face of the world's challenges. To stand together and unite against terrorism and attacks on our freedom. While we split the country over insecurity?

You all make me sick.

I'm done with this.

I'm done with this entire issue.

If you see what is right, if you see GODS WILL in destroying people's hopes and opressing people for the sake of tradition and your rigid understanding of biology then fine.

Let us become this Christian Nation. Let us become the bastion of righteouness. Let our government become a tool for religion. And if not that, a tool for tradition. And THEN, for once, because you seem so good at it, LOOK TO THE PAST . Look to it and find your answer of what happens.

First of all, we must face the truth, and then we can change our course. We simply must have faith in each other, faith in our ability to govern ourselves, and faith in the future of this Nation. Restoring that faith and that confidence to America is now the most important task we face. It is a true challenge of this generation of Americans. - Jimmy Carter
