Orphaned at birth, Hank Kipple only knew the life of an orphan. As time went on Kipple realized that he was becoming to old to be adopted and developed a biting sarcasm.
One night when liquor store robbers broke into the orphanage to use it as a refuge, Kipple helped the vigilante Hawk-Owl subdue the criminals. The next day, much to Kipple's surprise and suspicion, he was adopted by millionaire Jack Danner.
Soon discovering that Danner was Hawk-Owl the young orphan became his partner in crime fighting as the colorful Woody.
